The Study on the E-S Test

Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to establish cutting point of E-S test for ROKAF cadets which will be useful for psychological and psychiatric screening.
Before beginning. primary flight training, the test was administered to a population of 360 cadets, and statistical methods were applied to resulting answer sheets. The main results found through the study are as follows.
1. With the most efficient cutting point (between 9 and 10), about 5%(N=18)
of the cadets could be identified psychologically as unfit if this test -were
alone -for selection purpose.
2. Motivational and emotional failures could be more successfully identified than physical failures.
3. When the experimental sample was divided into the true and the false negatives, no statistically significant differences was found between the two groups in terms of their.-unhealthy responses to questions¢¥ in the different symptom categories. .
4. The number of unhealthy responses to questions in the different symptom categories by the screened group is not substantially different from the one found in the unscreened group.
The sample studied was drawn ROKAF cadets, but no objective data is available .at present to verify that the sample is representative. Accordingly, findings cited above should be interpreted as tentative conclusions.
